IAAB was proud to present the first ever Iranian-American Leadership Camp, held at Thompson Island, Massachusetts the week of June 25 - June 30, 2006. The Iranian-American Leadership Camp aimed to create a forum that will allow high school age members of the Iranian-American community the opportunity to learn leadership and communication skills, increase their knowledge of the Iranian culture, engage with current leaders in the Iranian community, and participate in teambuilding activities.

Through a combination of teambuilding activities and workshops the camp gave young Iranian-Americans the opportunity to:

  • acquire leadership skills, with a focus on public speaking, organizational skills, setting goals, brainstorming, etc.
  • reflect upon what it means to be a hyphenated Iranian and American
  • learn to successfully work in groups to achieve common goals
  • increase awareness of Iranian language and culture
  • build a strong community among the younger generation of the Iranian-American diaspora

Campers participated in various activities, including: ropes courses, lectures by prominent members of the Iranian-American community, cultural workshops, group challenges, and public speaking workshops. The Iranian-American Leadership Camp works to equip young Iranian-Americans with leadership skills that will enable them to make a difference in their own communities.

IAAB would like to thank the following sponsors for making the 2006 Iranian-American Leadership Camp happen:
