IAAB Conference '07

Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) and NYU's Persian Cultural Society are pleased to announce the Third International Conference on the Iranian Diaspora, to take place April 28-29, 2007 at New York University in New York, NY.

New York Skyline
IAAB is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen the Iranian diaspora community, placing particular emphasis on its youth. The conference will address the current conditions and issues facing the Iranian diaspora through a series of panels and workshops. In addition to providing an open environment for productive and interactive discussions about the diaspora, the conference will also serve as an opportunity to build a stronger network of Iranians across national borders.

In addition to continuing the dialogue initiated during the 2005 Conference and 2004 Conference, this year's conference will address a wide range of timely concerns and recent developments within the Iranian diaspora.

Academics, journalists, artists, activists, students, and community leaders from across the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Norway, Japan, and Iran will lead a series of panels and workshop sessions. The speakers will present on issues including:

  • media and cultural expression
  • changing needs of immigrant communities
  • transnational collaborations
  • implications of self-perception and representation
  • youth development initiatives, and
  • duties of the diaspora in trying political climates.

Registration fee for the conference: $50 (general admission), $25 (student admission). For detailed information, please refer to the conference schedule and speakers' biographies.
