1. Where is the camp located?

Conveniently located just outside of Washington, D.C., Hemlock Overlook is situated within 5,000 acres of Regional Park land and is jointly operated by George Mason University and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.

2. Who will supervise the campers?

Hemlock's staff has extensive experience and training in youth camp education as well as in leadership and team development. In addition to Hemlock's professional staff, campers will be under the direct supervision of IAAB staff and counselors, drawn from our exisiting staff and active volunteers.

3. How can I apply?

Application instructions and materials can be found here.

4. Will I be able to contact my child/parent during the camp?

Communication between campers, parents and staff will be open throughout the camp. In the event of an on-site emergency, Hemlock's staff has training in first aid, and hospitals are only a few minutes drive from the camp.

5. What are the costs of the camp?

The price of the camp, including room, board, and transportation from airports and other transportation hubs, is $575 for the entire 7 days and 6 nights of the camp. We are happy to offer a Norooz eidi to our campers: those who register before March 20, 2007, will receive a $50 discount!

6. How are sleeping quarters arranged?

Sleeping quarters are divided by gender, with campers, counselors and staff of the same gender sharing the same rooms.

7. What are meal accomodations?

Lunch and dinner are provided by Hemlock, while IAAB will provide breakfast and healthy snacks throughout the day.

8. Are there scholarships available?

We are offering a limited number of need-based scholarships, which require a separate scholarship application, available here.

9. What does Ayandeh mean?

Ayandeh means "future" in Persian, and the name "Camp Ayandeh" speaks to the mission of the camp: to create a positive, inclusive environment where young Iranian-Americans can grow as individuals within a community context, develop and maintain a loving connection to their cultural heritage, and learn how to become the leaders of tomorrow.
