Goals

     

  1. To better acquaint the Iranian diaspora NGOs and local/national NGOs with each other
  2. To create a forum for open discussion regarding cooperation and partnership between NGOs in Iran and the Iranian diaspora

  3. To create an opportunity for networking, support, and partnership between diaspora and national/local NGOs

  4. To create a forum in which exchange of ideas, information, and expertise can take place


Objectives

  1. Identify mechanisms and structures of cooperation and coordination among local, national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs, and the private sector.
  2. Review and analyze problems and challenges in the reconstruction of Bam and provide alternative strategies to achieve reconstruction goals through cooperation with Iranian diaspora NGOs.
  3. Use the capacitates of national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs in the fields of management; defining goals and priorities for projects; developing operational strategies; and, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating joint projects in Bam.
  4. Review and select areas of cooperation based on the needs and capacities in Bam and enlist partners and solid supporters for such projects.

Issues to Be Discussed

  • Report on situation in Bam today
  • Report on work of national/local NGOs
    o Include outline of how national/local NGOs work and needs that they are addressing (this should include background information for Iranian diaspora NGOs who may not know this information)
  • Report and analysis on support and financial power of Iranian diaspora community:
    o Statistics on relief aid raised by Iranian diaspora communities
    - Breakdown of who this money given to (INGOs, Iranian diapsora NGOs, etc)
    - How was this financial assistance used?
    - Was financial support for initial relief, or has it continued? If continued, in what manner and for what projects? Useful?
    o Activities of Iranian diaspora NGOs today in Bam
    o Examples of Iranian diaspora NGOs working in partnership with national/local NGOs
    - Rate success/failure of partnership---how can it be made better?
    - Room for partnerships? Mechanisms to use to create/strengthen partnerships

Possible Mechanisms and Ideas for Cooperation

  • Setting up a coordination body for cooperation and collaboration of local, national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs
  • Benefiting from local NGOs to carry out needs assessments using the financial support and expertise of national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs
  • Creating access to modern technology, especially IT
  • Providing financial support for reconstruction
  • Providing financial support for projects
  • Carrying out projects with transparency
  • Using useful information of local, national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs regarding employment generation for women
  • Setting up a comprehensive databank and information center on drug addiction
  • Financial and technical cooperation of international and Iranian diaspora NGOs with national and local NGOS, while observing the laws of the country
  • Inviting international and Iranian diaspora NGOs to consultation meetings in order to benefit from their knowledge and experiences
  • Developing innovative ways to engage and teach the youth (through research of innovative lesson planning in other countries)
  • Establishing a center for exchange of information among local, national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs
  • Facilitating close cooperation between local, national, international, and Iranian diaspora NGOs, and building mutual trust and confidence
