Camp Javan 2012 FAQ
1. Where is Camp Javan 2012 located?
Camp Javan 2012 will be held in Los Angeles, CA at Palisades Charter High School from July 16th to the 20th.
2. Who will supervise the campers?
Campers will be under the direct supervision of IAAB staff and Camp Javan counselors, who are either drawn from our existing IAAB staff, or selected through a rigorous application process.

4. Will I be able to contact or visit my child during the camp?
Campers will not be allowed to use cell phones during the day unless in the case of an emergency. However, parents or family members will be able to call and communicate with Camp Javan staff at all times. To ensure a cohesive environment, camper parents/guardians are not allowed to stay for Camp Javan activities. There will be a designated time for parent participation and camper celebration at the end of Camp Javan, as well as ample opportunities to speak with Javan staff during drop off or pickup time.
5. What is the cost of camp?
Camp fees, including participation in all camp activities, are $400 until April 30th. Applications submitted after April 30th will be assessed a $50 late fee and will be on a first-come first-serve basis.
All applicants are required to submit a $100 deposit with their Camp Javan application, to be put towards their total camp fees. Applicants who do not include this deposit at the time the application is submitted cannot be considered.
6. Are need-based tuition stipends available?
Yes. IAAB offers a number of need-based tuition stipends, which require a separate application IAAB highly encourages all interested students to apply.
7. Will it be possible to leave my child overnight?
Camp Javan is strictly a day camp. Campers are expected to be dropped off at Camp Javan between 8:00AM and 8:30AM and picked up between 5:00PM and 5:30PM everyday. Please inquire if you are not able to drop the camper during these times (transportation and extended hours may be available with additional fee).
8. Are meals provided?
IAAB will not be responsible for meals and snacks during Camp Javan. Campers are expected to pack their own lunch before arriving to the camp location. Camp Javan staff will be able to store the camper’s food.
9. Will transportation be provided?
Campers will be responsible for transportation to the Camp Javan location each day.
10. What is the camp’s security policy?
IAAB’s educational programs have an immaculate record with regard to camper safety. IAAB’s staff takes extra measures to ensure that campers are safe while under the care and supervision of IAAB at Camp Javan. Campers are under direct supervision at all times, and are never alone during camp. Except for emergencies when accompanied by a counselor or IAAB staff member, or in the instance of a camp-wide field trip, no campers are allowed off-campus during Camp Javan.
11. What does Javan mean?
Javan means “youth” in Persian and the name “Camp Javan” speaks to the camp’s dual mission empowering campers with: a deeper understanding of culture and identity as youth within the Iranian Diaspora, and the confidence and skills to be leaders within their communities. The Iranian diaspora community is diverse and vibrant, a characteristic that Camp Javan represents, embraces, and celebrates.
12. How will Camp Javan’s curriculum be different from Camp Ayandeh?
Camp Javan will build on Camp Ayandeh’s strengths by focusing on identity, community and leadership. At the same time, Camp Javan will emphasize the specific nuances and potentials of middle school, such as the social and leadership skills relevant to younger students.
13. Is Camp Javan open to campers and counselors from outside the Los Angeles area?
Yes. Camp Javan is open to all youth of the Iranian diaspora community. IAAB is invested in bringing together a diverse group of participants and encourages all interested applicants from around the world to apply for Camp Javan. Campers and counselors from outside the Los Angeles are will be expected to secure their own housing for the duration of Camp Javan.
14. What if I submit my application but don’t include a deposit? What if I’m applying for a tuition stipend?
Applicants who do not include a $100 deposit at the time the application is submitted will not be considered.
If you are applying for a need based tuition stipend, please include a deposit upon submitting both your camper and tuition stipend applications. You will be refunded your deposit if you are offered a tuition stipend. If you are not offered a stipend and decide not to attend Camp Javan, your deposit will also be refunded.
